Washington Huskies vs Michigan State Spartans

The Washington Huskies (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) aim to extend their current SU win streak to 10 games when they visit the Michigan State Spartans (2-0, 1-1) on Saturday evening in college football Week 3 betting action at Spartan Stadium.

The Huskies have carried over their dominating ways from last season with a pair of lopsided victories to begin the current campaign, capped by last weekend’s 43-10 rout of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

Winners of just five games last season, the Spartans have stormed out of the gate this year, recording a pair of decisive SU and ATS victories, capped by last weekend’s 45-14 win over Richmond as 29-point home favorites.

Latest Betting Notes: Washington Huskies

The Huskies have emerged as a powerhouse since the beginning of last season, winning outright in 13 of 15 contests. However, they saw a five-game ATS win streak snapped by failing to cover a lofty 34-point chalk in this past weekend’s victory over Tulsa.

Indeed, the Huskies have dominated at both ends of the gridiron, topping 50 points three times while averaging 46.4 points per game over their past five outings, while limiting opponents to 20 or fewer points four times over that stretch. Washington has also topped the Spartans in two meetings since 1997, including a 39-28 win as 3.5-point home chalk a year ago.

Latest Betting Notes: Michigan State Spartans

After struggling at times to generate offense during a lost season in 2022, the Spartans have found their groove in the early going of the new campaign. Led by quarterback Noah Kim, who has tossed for five TDs to date, the Spartans have averaged 38 points per game.

The team has also enjoyed a stout defense that limited the Richmond Spiders to just 193 total yards of offense in last weekend’s win and has yet to surrender a scoring run through the first two weeks. However, MSU has struggled in recent dates with PAC-12 opponents, losing and failing to cover in their past four matchups.

The Keys to Victory: Washington

It was another big day for Michael Penix Jr. in last weekend’s victory over Tulsa, as the senior quarterback tossed for 409 yards and three scores in the Huskies’ 43-10 win. Penix has now connected on eight scoring passes over the first two weeks of the season while completing an impressive 73.1% of pass attempts. Penix has developed good chemistry with a pair of junior receivers.

Rome Odunze pulled in seven catches for 107 yards and one score in last weekend’s win and has now topped 100 receiving yards and made a scoring catch in three straight regular season games. After making two scoring catches in the team’s 56-19 win over Boise State two weeks ago, Jalen McMillan compiled 120 passing yards and one score last weekend. Indeed, those numbers could have been better for both receivers had they had each avoided blowing easy catches. Such mistakes will not be forgiven against MSU.

The Keys to Victory: Michigan State

Noah Kim has looked steady in his first two outings as the Spartans starting quarterback. In addition to the five scoring passes he has made to date, Kim also connected on over 81% of pass attempts against Richmond. That marks a massive improvement after he completed just 58.1% of attempts in the team’s 31-7 win over Central Michigan in Week 1.

Kim received a big assist from an effective ground game led by Nathan Carter. The sophomore rusher ran for three scores and 111 yards and has now topped 110 yards in two outings this season after missing most of last season as a member of the UCONN Huskies due to injury.

Carter’s resurgence has been critical to MSU, which has been missing rushers Jaren Mangham and Jalen Berger due to injury. With that duo on the shelf, Carter was the only rusher apart from Berger to top 20 rushing yards last weekend.
