Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros 6/13/2023 Picks Predictions Previews

The Washington Nationals will go against the Houston Astros in MLB action in Minute Maid Park, TX, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 8:10 PM ET.

The Nationals continue to struggle as they head to Houston to face the defending champion Astros after dropping two of three games to the NL East-leading Braves over the weekend in Atlanta.

With a 6-2 victory over the Braves on Sunday, the Nationals were able to save one game in the series.

As part of a four-run sixth inning featuring two-run home runs from Dominic Smith and Jeimer Candelario, Trevor Williams won by allowing just two runs on seven hits over five good innings.

On Tuesday night, lefty Patrick Corbin will start the series for the Nationals against the Astros. Corbin has made 13 starts this season and has a 4.89 ERA.

Corbin has made seven solid starts this year, tossing 73.1 innings and allowing 93 hits. Corbin only has a 5.6 K/9 rate and a 1.52 WHIP.

Corbin made five starts on the road and won two of them. On the road, he has an ERA of 5.72, a K/9 rate of 6.4, and a WHIP of 1.73.

For the year, the Nationals sent 197 relievers to the mound. Over the course of the season, 95 runners were inherited by bullpen relievers, and 36.8% of them scored.

They made 17 saves this year, but 15 of their 32 opportunities were missed.

The Nationals’ relievers entered the game in 65 save situations with a cumulative save percentage of 53.1%. So far, the relief pitchers are 21st in the league with 33 holds this season.

  • The Washington Nationals are 1-6 SU in their last seven matches.

The Houston Astros lost their past two series, first to the Blue Jays in Toronto in three out of four games and then to the Guardians in Cleveland in two out of three.

The Rangers’ two-game losing streak in Tampa Bay cost the Astros a chance to close the gap on them in the AL West.

The Astros dropped five of their previous six games after being blanked 5-0 by Shane Bieber and the Guardians on Sunday.

The Astros could only advance one runner to second base off of Bieber, while Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve were out due to injuries and rest, respectively.

Houston will look to righty Hunter Brown on Tuesday to help the team win again. In 12 starts this year, Brown is 5-3 with six strong outings.

Brown has a stellar 10.4 K/9 rate, a 3.69 ERA, and a 1.21 WHIP. Brown has a 1-2 record and a 4.05 ERA in five starts at home.

He had two excellent starts at home, and his WHIP and K/9 rates marginally increased to 10.5 and 1.39, respectively.

The Houston pitching staff gave up 243 runs this season, good for a club ERA of 3.32 (217 earned runs). They allowed 69 long balls and 3.71 runs per nine innings, which ranks first in the MLB.

Over the season, the Astros’ staff had a staff FIP of 3.85 and a team WHIP of 1.246. They have a 9.50 K/BB ratio (623 strikeouts vs. 203 free passes). With 531 total hits allowed, their pitching staff is ranked 10th in the league.

  • The total went under in four of Houston’s last six matches.
  • The Houston Astros are 1-5 SU in their last six matches.
  • The Houston Astros are 10-3 SU in their last 13 matches at home.

Washington Nationals vs. Houston Astros The MLB pick for this game is the Houston Astros. Despite losing Alvarez, the Astros still have one of the most effective lineups in the major leagues.

The recent success of DH/1B Jose Abreau is an encouraging development. With two home runs and six RBI in his last five contests, Abreau appeared to regain his power stroke. His average is 304.

As left-handed batters, the Astros are hitting.260 this year, and they should be able to load the bases against Corbin, who permitted 20 more hits than innings pitched.

The short porch in left field will probably not be to his liking on Tuesday night, as his ERA increases by almost a run when playing on the road this year.

He allowed 11 home runs this season, and Houston will probably add to that total. This season, Brown threw a little bit worse at home, but the Nationals’ lineup struggles to generate power.

This season, the Nationals rank 28th in home runs per game and 20th in runs scored. Expect the Astros to win on Tuesday night thanks to their starting lineup. The Houston Astros will win by a predicted score of 6-3.
