The Washington Wizards (4-22; 13-13 ATS) have dropped two straight games since a 137-123 victory to the Indiana Pacers on December 15. After a tough 112-108 defeat at the Phoenix Suns in which Washington blew a 16-point lead, the Wizards lost at the Sacramento Kings 143-131 this past Monday.

The Wizards shot 51.8% from the field and 47.4% from downtown (18-for-38) at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, but their defense was awful once more. The Kings were scoring at will while committing a paltry seven turnovers. Jordan Poole led the way for Washington with 28 points, and Kyle Kuzma added 27 points and eight rebounds.

Washington is tied with the San Antonio Spurs for the second-worst record in the NBA. The Wizards score 112.4 points per 100 possessions (tied-23rd) while surrendering a staggering 121.9 points in return (30th). They are dead last in the league in opposing 2-point percentage (58.2%) and 16th in opposing 3-point percentage (36.9%).

The Portland Trail Blazers (7-19; 13-13 ATS) put an end to their seven-game losing streak last Tuesday. They upset the Phoenix Suns 109-104, playing as 7.5-point home underdogs. The Blazers overcame Kevin Durant’s 40-point performance, rallying from a 12-point halftime deficit.

Portland held Phoenix to 43 second-half points. The Trail Blazers went 14-for-28 from beyond the arc and allowed just five 3-pointers to the Suns, who outscored Portland 62-36 in the paint. Anfernee Simmons led the charge for the Blazers with 23 points and seven assists, while Deandre Ayton double-doubled with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The Trail Blazers score just 108.6 points per 100 possessions (27th in the NBA) on 49.3% shooting from inside the arc (30th) and 34.7% from beyond the 3-point line (25th). They allow 115.1 points per 100 possessions (14th) on 58.0% shooting from inside the arc (29th) and 32.9% from downtown (2nd).

Insiders Status:

The Wizards are second in the league in pace. They record 104.1 possessions per 48 minutes, while the Trail Blazers tally 98.0 possessions per 48 minutes (23rd in the NBA). Portland won’t mind picking up the pace in this matchup, so I’m backing the over.

The total has gone over in six of the Wizards’ last nine games overall and 11 of their previous 15 contests against the Northwest Division teams. Also, the over is 4-2 in Portland’s last six contests overall, and it is 13-6 in the last 19 encounters between the Trail Blazers and Wizards.

Prediction: Go over 238.0 points (-110)
