Watch fan ask Jimmy Butler to score 20 points at Grizzlies-Heat game

Jimmy Butler doesn’t care about your sports betting props.

The Miami Heat star was asked by a fan sitting courtside during Wednesday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum to reach 20 points. The fan attempted to entice Butler by saying the Heat forward scoring 20 points would help him pay his mortgage.

Then, Butler responded.

“What? I paid mine,” Butler said. “I bought my house cash.”

The fan then asked Butler to make a three on the Heat possession. Butler finished the game with 15 points.

Sports betting has grown in the NBA over the last five years. Even in the video of Butler and the fan’s conversation, a FanDuel sign can be seen behind the basket.

FanDuel and the NBA agreed to an expanded multi-year partnership in 2018 that allowed the online sports betting site to become the authorized gaming operator of the NBA. DraftKings and FanDuel became the NBA's co-official sports betting partners in 2021.

Casual fans with no rooting interest in teams have now been drawn to NBA games more because of financial incentives.

Early Thursday morning, Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk posted on X that he doesn’t care about the parlays of fans. His teammates Kevin Huerter and Daivion Mitchell reposted and agreed.

The players were criticized by fans for their comments.

NBA players are unable to participate in any sports gambling associated with the league, so maybe they try to distance themselves from the conversations, but sports betting isn’t going anywhere.
