THE LOWDOWN

WESTERLO

Following promotion in the 2021/22 campaign, Westerlo were very impressive in the 2022/23 Jupiler Pro League campaign as they finished in the top eight and the European playoff places. They managed that qualification in entertaining style, too, with 114 goals coming in their 34 matches. The hosts began this season with another entertaining encounter, sharing a thrilling 2-2 draw with Eupen last weekend, coming back from two goals down with just over 20 minutes of the game to go.

CLUB BRUGGE

Under the management of former Standard Liege manager Ronny Deila, Club Brugge come into this on the back of an underwhelming start to the 2023/24 Jupiler Pro League campaign. The visitors shared a 1-1 draw with Mechelen last weekend, coming back from a goal down and seeing out the end of the match with just ten men. They also lost 1-0 to Aarhus in midweek but did hold on to a 3-1 aggregate victory in their UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round tie.

Westerlo are expected to name an unchanged side from their 2-2 draw with Eupen, given they have no injuries or suspensions.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Bolat; Jordanov, Neustadter, Tagir, Bos; Van den Keybus, Fixelles, Madsen, Gumuskaya; Daci, Matsuo

CLUB BRUGGE

Ronny Deila may be pressured into switching his team around after a disappointing draw and, with the suspension of Maxim De Cuyper, they will be forced into at least one change.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Buchanan, Mechele, Spileers, Meijer; Rits, Onyedika; Olsen, Vanaken, Nusa; Thiago

THE PREDICTION

As is often the case with matches involving Westerlo, this one is expected to be quite an entertaining encounter. Westerlo have proven themselves to be confident of maintaining their aggressive and front foot style of football, as shown by their opening day 2-2 draw with Eupen. Club Brugge, on the other hand, didn’t quite show the style of football preferred by Deila but that will surely grow. An exciting game for the neutral is to be expected.
