Wetherholt Third in Betting Odds For Golden Spikes Award

Coming off a season where he hit .449 with 16 home runs and 36 stolen bases helping WVU to a Big 12 championship, West Virginia middle infielder JJ Wetherholt opens up in the top three for betting odds to win the Golden Spikes award at +700 according to odds by Fanduel.

The 5-foot-10 190-pound product of Mars, Pennsylvania was also just recently named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year for the 2024 season.

Behind Jac Caglianone of Florida (+500) and Nick Kurtz of Wake Forrest (+600), Wetherholt is the third most likely to win college baseball’s most prestigious award according to oddmakers.

Wetherholt was a semifinalist for the award last season, which ultimately went to LSU’s Dylan Crews, who was selected second overall by the Washington Nationals in the 2023 MLB draft.

Wetherholt played second base in 2023 having a fielding percentage of .973 but is expected to play shortstop this upcoming season.
