Graham Potter’s Chelsea go in search of back-to-back victories in the Premier League for the first time since October when they take on Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest on Sunday

Chelsea travel to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on New Year’s Day as they aim to get 2023 off to the perfect start with a win.

The Blues ended their five-game winless run in the top flight with a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on their return to action on Tuesday and are now targeting another three points to close the gap between themselves and the top four.

But looking to pull off a shock result is Premier League new boys Forest, who suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United five days ago. However, they are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions on home soil.

When is Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea?

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea will kick-off at 4:30pm on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the City Ground.

This will be the first Premier League meeting between the two sides since February 1999, although they did meet as recently as January 2020 in an FA Cup third round clash at Stamford Bridge.

First half strikes from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ross Barkley were enough to send the Blues through to the next round of the FA Cup, exactly 12 months on from the same fixture in the same competition that also ended 2-0 to the hosts.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring for Chelsea in their 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday

Morgan Gibbs-White (calf) could also return if he passes a late fitness test but Cheikhou Kouyate (thigh), Moussa Niakhate (thigh), Omar Richards (calf) and Giulian Biancone (knee) are out.

As for Chelsea, Tuesday’s victory over Bournemouth proved they still have enough quality in their injury-hit side to pick up all three points. However, if Graham Potter fails to welcome back any first team stars from injury, he is likely to name an unchanged lineup.

One enforced change will be that of Reece James (knee), who picked up a fresh injury on his return to action five days ago. Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech could be available following their returns from international duty but Ben Chilwell (thigh), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (calf), Wesley Fofana (knee), N’Golo Kante (thigh) and Armando Broja (knee) are out.
