Connacht- 13/5

Connacht scrum and lineout coach John Muldoon is sure that Connacht’s New Year’s Day win over Munster has them in good shape in the return to Champions Cup action.

The Westerners have only a point from two European games so far.

But a win away on Saturday to a Lyon side in Top 14 freefall would set up a final-round clash at home to Pat Lam’s Bristol on Friday week.

Record appearance-maker Muldoon is back out west as a lineout and maul coach after five years coaching with ex-Connacht chief Lam at Bristol.

And he feels the 22-9 win over the Reds, which ended a five-match losing run, must be a turning point.

Muldoon said: “The win was important after a couple of tough weeks. The manner in how we did it was big.

"It was a huge performance in terms of the pressure on us to win. We just need to be consistent.”

Lyon lost 45-0 to Toulouse at the weekend but Muldoon remains wary.

He added: “They are struggling but have some real quality. We have to make sure we are switched on.”

Connacht’s Byron Ralston has been handed a three-game ban after being found guilty of dangerous play in that Munster game for his challenge on Jack O’Donoghue, who suffered a knee injury that requires surgery.
