Where are they now? Real Madrid's 5 wonderkids from FM 2013

When Football Manager 2013 was released in November 2012, Real Madrid were the reigning champions of Spain. They suffered an underwhelming title defence in 2012-13 and fell behind Tito Vilanova's side. But the future of the club was looking bright, with one of world football's most highly-rated centre-backs and a new batch of promising kids from their famous La Fabrica academy.

Raphael Varane arrived at Real Madrid from Lens in the summer of 2011. He made 360 appearances for the club and won four Champions Leagues. Mourinho called him the best defender in world. Varana left for Manchester United in 2021.

Ivan Saez was a player of Football Manager 2013. He won the Under-18s Copa del Rey that year but he never played for Real Madrid. Sáez was released by Madrid in 2015.

Jose Rodriguez was a La Fabrica academy graduate. He made his debut for Real Madrid in 2012-13 season. Rodriguez captained Spain's Under-19s at the European Championships in Lituania in the summer of 2013. After a loan to Deportivo La Coruna, Rodriguez moved to Galatasaray in 2015. Now he plays for Belgian side Union SG.

Alex Fernandez made two appearances under Mourinho at his hometown club Cadiz. He left by mutual consent in 2013 and joined Espanyol. Now in his sixth season with the Andalusian club, he's made 200 appearances.

Omar Mascarell was released by Real Madrid in 2013. He played for Derby County, Sporting Gijon and Eintracht Frankfurt. Mancarella played almost a century of Bundesliga games for Frankfurt and Schalke.
