LSU heads into this game without Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, but remains a substantial favorite over Wisconsin.
Playing QB for the Tigers will be Garrett Nussmeier, who attempted 33 passes this season. He faces a stout Wisconsin pass defense that ranks 26th nationally in passing yards allowed per game.
Daniels, who threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while running for 1,134 yards and 10 scores, isn't the only one missing this game. Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen is another.
Even without Daniels, the Tigers' offense has plenty of firepower. Wideout Malik Nabers (1,546 yards, 14 touchdowns) is one of the best pass-catchers in college football. Fellow wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (1,079 yards, 15 touchdowns) will play as well.
Wisconsin will turn to quarterback Tanner Mordecai in Allen’s absence. Mordecai completed 64.6% of his throws for 1,688 yards and six touchdowns this season. The Badgers will start Jackson Acker at tailback, with Allen opting out and backup Chez Mellusi out with injury.
If this game is close, you can thank the Badger defense. Wisconsin boasts star defensive backs Ricardo Hallman (six interceptions) and Hunter Wohler (113 tackles, two interceptions), who may cause problems for the Tigers.
Despite the change at quarterback, we think LSU gets the job done. Take the Tigers to win outright on New Year’s Day.
