Wonder Gadot races to victory in 159th Queen's Plate

John Velazquez rode the 2/1 favourite to a 4 3/4-length victory in the $1-million Queen's Plate on Woodbine Racetrack's Tapeta course. The 1 1/2-mile course was run in 35 C temperatures.

Wonder Gadot won the 159th Queen's Plate at Woodbine Racetrack. She was wearing blinkers for the first time. Trainer Mark Casse won his second Plate. Velazquez rallied her from fourth to win in 2:02.26.

Wonder Gadot won her fourth career race with Aheadbyacentury. Jesse Campbell guided 45/1 longshot Cooler Mike to third place. The winner's share boosted Wonder Gadots earnings past $1.3 million.

Wonder Gadot won 159th Queen's Plate. She came into the Plate after finishing second in the Kentucky Oaks and Woodbine Oaks. Casse put blinkers on the horse to help her focus more. Barber and Velazquez are happy with the result.

After the race, Casese cooled Wonder's horse down. He was disappointed his other horses didn't run better. He doesn't like his kids to get beat up.

Wonder Gadot won 159th Queen's Plate. Casse left the door open for Wonder Gadots to chase the second jewel of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown, the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on July 24 on Fort Erie Racetrack.
