World Pool Handicap 2023 Betting Tips and Predictions

With the Group racing being a little bit underwhelming on day two of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, let’s take a look at the final race on the card, which is a handicap race over seven furlongs.

This may be a handicap contest, but it is an incredibly competitive one. 17 runners will head to post for this race over seven furlongs, a race that carries a prize of £18,039 for winning connections.

Our Betting Tips and Predictions for the World Pool Handicap

Ahead of what is a highly competitive handicap contest, here are our best predictions and betting tips:

Our Best Prediction: Urban Sprawl (each-way) @ 17/2

As things stand at the time of writing on the morning of the race, Urban Sprawl has only one ahead of him in the betting. It’s easy to see why he’s close to the top of the market, though I would argue that he could be even shorter.

This horse didn’t fire at Newmarket last time out, but we can forgive him for that. He ran a blinder to finish third (of 29) in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot staying on well in the closing stages. A previous good-to-soft winner, the colt also has plenty of form over seven furlongs, winning a competitive Class 2 handicap over course and distance back in late May.

That Ascot run is hard to ignore and if he can deliver something similar here then he’s unlikely to be far away. All the time the price allows, he goes down as an each-way must for a trainer who likes Goodwood and is unlikely to leave this meeting without a winner.

Our Each Way Prediction: Classic (each-way) @ 17/2

At similar odds, Classic is another who simply must gone down as a solid each-way selection while the price allows. Richard Hannon’s lightly raced runner arrives here off the back of winning well in Class 3 company last time out, beating a smart rival by a cozy length. That smart rival was Novus, who yesterday went close in a big-field handicap at this meeting, so the form looks strong, that’s for sure.

What’s more, the colt’s most decisive previous victory came when he ran on soft ground over this trip at Newmarket last season, so today’s conditions ought to bring out the best in him. Looks nicely weighted and has plenty in favour, so don’t be surprised to see him go close.
