City to take step closer to qualification

The Light Blues suffered three domestic defeats in a row so the recent international break was apparently a welcome respite for them. The reigning English and European champions returned to action with a 2-1 home win over Brighton on Saturday.

It was not a complete performance from City, who had Manuel Akanji sent off late on, but they managed to overcome an Albion side who have been impressing under Roberto De Zerbi.

That triumph has provided a timely confidence boost for Pep Guardiola’s men and they will be eager to build on that display when they travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys.

While the hosts have excelled in the Swiss Super League, where they currently sit second, it has been harder for them in Europe and a 3-1 loss at home to RB Leipzig was then followed by a 2-2 draw away to Red Star Belgrade.

It looks a tall order for Raphael Wicky’s troops to take a positive result from this fixture, but they should have enough to get on the scoresheet against a City defence that has not been at its best this season.

The Light Blues have failed to keep a clean sheet in their past five matches across all competitions, while they have not recorded a shutout away from home since the 3-0 win over Burnley on the opening night of the campaign.

Young Boys vs Manchester City tip 1: Manchester City to win and both teams to score @ 17/10 with Paddy Power

Lively Belgian to strike

One player who has been impressive for City of late is Jeremy Doku, the summer arrival from Rennes who has had to bide his time for starting appearances this season.

The Belgium international scored in the 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig on matchday two, while he has also netted once in the Premier League and provided an assist in the win over Brighton at the weekend.

Whether he is handed a start on Wednesday, or is brought off the bench, Doku has the pace and attacking flair to get into positions to find the back of the net.

Young Boys vs Manchester City tip 2: Jeremy Doku to score anytime @ 11/5 with Paddy Power

Alvarez and corners go hand-in-hand

Another player who has gone from strength to strength for City this season is Julian Alvarez, who leads his club’s scoring charts in the Champions League with three strikes from two outings.

The Argentinian forward has also scored four times in the Premier League – only Erling Haaland has more than him in City’s squad – and he has been a constant threat for opposition defences.

He opened the scoring in the weekend victory over Brighton and Alvarez looks a prime candidate to add to his season tally.

Also in this bet builder is for there to be over 10.5 total corners in the match. City have had 15 across their two Champions League games, while Young Boys have had eight.
