Your Tuesday Kickoff: Small moves could pay off big for retooling clubs

Wales salvage a 1-1 draw against USA in their 2022 FIFA World Cup Group B opener.

D.C. United have signed defender Pedro Santos on a two-year contract through 2024. Santos spent the last five and a half years with the Columbus Crew. He played for Braga in Portugal before that.

New York Red Bulls sign free agent Cory Burke. He played for the Philadelphia Union for five seasons. Burke made 93 MLS appearances and scored 25 goals and eight assists.

Re-Entry Draft Stage 2 takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1 pm ET. Teams can draft players who are out of contract and give them a contract offer. Colorado recalled midfielder Cole Bassett from Fortuna Sittard on Friday. Colorado finished first in the West in 2021. The Rapids have been making smart moves that should make them better in 2023.

Cory Burke is a low-risk signing for New York Red Bulls. D.C. United signed 34-year-old fullback Pedro Santos on a two- year deal. Brad Stuver finished as the fourth-best shot-stopper in the league this season.  Austin's overperformance relative to their expected goals numbers can be attributed to Stuever. He is also involved in his community and a vocal supporter of positive causes. The move makes sense for United. They are going through a major shift across the organization. It's not a good time to buy a striker. New Yorkers need to fill at least one of their three open DP spots.

Austin FC sign goalkeeper Brad Stuver to a new contract through the 2025 MLS season with an option for 2026. StUver joined the Verde & Black ahead of their 2021 MLS debut.
