Aaron Rodgers traded to Jets: NFL futures odds, betting strategy for AFC East and Packers in 2023 NFL season

The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets kicked off NFL Draft week by finally agreeing to the parameters of a trade that sends future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Big Apple.

The deal involves two pick swaps -- Green Bay getting No. 13 and No. 207 in this year's draft while sending New York No. 15 and No. 170 -- as well as the Jets parting with No. 42 this year and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of the snaps this season, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Per my NFL draft pick value chart, the trade equates Rodgers' value to around the No. 12 or No. 13 overall pick in this year's draft, assuming that 2024 pick winds up being a first-rounder.

Could the deal have been as simple as Rodgers for No. 13? Yes, that's basically what the valuation of the picks is saying, though the Jets likely have concerns about the left tackle spot and didn't want to trade out of the first round altogether. Of course, they also had No. 42 and 43 to work with, and the chart pegs that package as being worth 18th overall, which could've gotten them in range for a left tackle. Or the Packers could've gotten the same value by acquiring No. 42, 43 and a 2024 second-round pick (or third with conditions for an upgrade if you want to go that route) and been sitting pretty with four picks in the top 45.

But what's done is done, and now our attention turns forward to the 2023 NFL season. In the moments after the trade was reported -- which was long rumored to be on the horizon, giving the market plenty of time to react to the deal prior to Monday -- the Bills were the favorites to win the AFC East at +135, with the Jets next at +200, the Dolphins at +320 and the Patriots at +1000 at Caesars Sportsbook. The Jets are +700 to win the AFC with Rodgers at quarterback, the fourth shortest odds in the conference behind the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals, and +1400 to win the Super Bowl, which is sixth shortest behind the 49ers, Eagles and those three AFC powerhouses. Finally, the Jets are -125 to go Over 9.5 wins.

The Packers have the longest odds to win the NFC North with Jordan Love at quarterback, sitting at +380 as of Friday evening. The Lions are the clear favorites to win the division at +155, followed by the Vikings at +300 and the Bears at +320. The Packers are +2200 to win the NFC, which is tied for 10th-best in the conference with the Rams, and +5000 to win the Super Bowl, which is tied for 19th with the Seahawks, Patriots, Bears and Rams. Finally, the Packers are -130 to finish Under 7.5 wins.
