New York Jets Move to Top 5 in Latest Super Bowl LVIII Odds

The New York Jets continue to climb the Super Bowl LVIII odds boards. The Gang Green were at +2500 to win Super Bowl LVIII on February 13th. Their odds went down to +1500 when it was rumored that Aaron Rodgers would be headed there.

Earlier this week, the Jets improved further to +1200 after the Jets signed Packers free-agent WR Allen Lazard.

Those odds are now down to +1000 at online sportsbook Bovada after Aaron Rodgers confirmed that he intends to play for the Jets this season.

Aaron Rodgers Says He Intends to Play for the Jets

Rodgers' future has been the center of discussion in the NFL rumor mill since he emerged from his "darkness retreat" after pondering on his future. Prior to that, the Jets, Raiders, and Tennessee Titans were favored to land his services after it became clear that his time in Green Bay was over.

The Jets had always been considered one of the favorites to be his next team but there was always the possibility that Rodgers would retire instead of playing for another team. Speculation grew heavier on Tuesday when the Jets eventually signed Lazard to a four-year $44 million deal.

On Wednesday, Rodgers appeared on the Pat McAfee show and talked about his future for the first time since going on the retreat. In that show, Rodgers admitted that he intends to play for the Jets and that New York and the Green Bay Packers are finalizing the details of a trade.

Although nothing is official yet, Rodgers' announcement appears to be the nail in the coffin of the story. Shortly after that, the Jets' odds continued to move up while the Packers' futures odds plummeted immediately.

Rodgers was One of Several Veteran QBs Linked to the Jets

The Jets are coming off a solid second season under head coach Robert Saleh. New York improved from a 4-13 SU team in 2021 to a 7-10 SU this past season.

WR Garrett Wilson won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors while cornerback Sauce Gardner was named Defensive Rookie of the Year. With a strong defense and plenty of young talents on both sides of the ball, the Jets opened with a +2500 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII.

New York was one of the teams considered to be looking for a new starting QB. 2021 second-overall pick Zach Wilson was once touted to be the team's franchise quarterback. But after he was removed from his starting job last season, it was clear that the Jets would be looking for a new starter.

Rodgers, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Derek Carr were the three veteran QBs that were believed to be on the move during the offseason. Carr was the first to make his move, signing a four-year deal worth up to $150 million with the New Orleans Saints earlier this month. That move saw the Saints' title odds improve from +4000 to +2500 at BetOnline.

Next was Garoppolo who signed with the Raiders. But unlike the Saints who saw their Super Bowl odds improve after signing Carr, the Raiders' odds even faded from +4000 to +4400 when it was announced that Jimmy G. had signed a three-year deal with Las Vegas.

Jets Are Now A Top 5 Super Bowl 58 Favorite

According to the latest Super Bowl LVIII odds at BetOnline, as of Thursday morning, the Jets, even without a finalized agreement yet to acquire Rodgers, have continued to move up the odds boards.

New York is listed in the Top 5 favorites with odds of +1000. Right now, only the Kansas City Chiefs (+600), Buffalo Bills (+900), and San Francisco 49ers (+900) have shorter odds than them. The Jets, at +1000, have the same Super Bowl odds as last season's NFC Champions Philadelphia Eagles.

New York is also currently listed at +600 to win the AFC Conference. The Chiefs are the favorites to repeat as conference champions at +375 while the Buffalo Bills have the second-best odds at +525. The Cincinnati Bengals are next at +550, while the Jets are not too far behind at the fourth spot.

The Jets have also climbed the divisional ladder. New York opened with the longest odds to win the AFC East at +500 odds but, according to the latest divisional odds at Bovada, they are now at +210 odds with only the Buffalo Bills ahead of them at +125 odds.

While the Jets have moved up, the Green Bay Packers have seen their betting odds tumble across the various betting markets. The Packers opened at +2500 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII but dropped to +3500 after it became clear that Rodgers would be leaving.

Those odds plummeted to +5000 on Thursday morning at BetOnline. Green Bay also moved from second at +300 to win the NFC North Division to the bottom at +500 in the latest odds boards.
