Chargers vs. Jets line, odds and predictions: Why our experts are split on who will win

The New York Jets host the Los Angeles Chargers as they look to go 2-0 on Monday Night Football this season. The Jets are home underdogs even with a three-game winning streak and facing a Chargers team with a losing record.

Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday at Metlife Stadium. The game will be televised on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2.

With Rodgers recovering from his torn Achilles, the Zach Wilson redemption arc continues, sort of. Wilson is not lighting it up by any means; he’s thrown three total touchdowns since Week 4. But after throwing four interceptions in his first two games, he’s only thrown one since. Wilson is keeping the Jets in games with his safer play, doing just enough to earn three straight wins with the Jets’ dominant defense leading the way. Make no mistake: the Jets are winning despite Wilson, not because of him.

Breece Hall is flashing his pre-injury form now that he’s more than a year removed from tearing his ACL. Hall has six rushes of 15-plus yards this year, tied for seventh most and just two behind league leader Raheem Mostert. He ripped off an 83-yard run Week 1 versus the Bills and a career-long 72-yard touchdown Week 5 in Denver (the same place his season ended last year). But even with the big plays, he’s not back. He’s averaged less than 3.3 yards per carry in four of six games and has just three games over 60 rushing yards. Hall has looked more assertive with each game and should only get stronger as the season progresses.

While Los Angeles boasts a top-10 scoring offense and one of the most prolific passing attacks in the league, the Chargers still hold a losing record. The Chargers keep “Charger-ing” late-game situations. Since entering the league in 2020, Justin Herbert has thrown 13 interceptions in the fourth quarter of one-score games. That’s five more than any other quarterback over the same period. In one-score games this season, the Chargers are 2-3, with an 0-3 record in games decided by a field goal or less. To come away with their second road victory of the season, Herbert, Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen will have to lead the way for an offense that’s already lost wide receiver Mike Williams for the year and could be without Joshua Palmer, who’s expected to be a game-time call.
