Detroit Tigers vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction 7-27-23 MLB Picks

The Los Angeles Angels and the Detroit Tigers meet Thursday in MLB doubleheader action from Comerica Park. These matchups will be the second and final installments in a three-game series. The Angels eked out an extra-innings victory in the opener, then Wednesday’s game two was postponed due to weather. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels got two RBI from both Mike Moustakas and Taylor Ward in the Tuesday opener as they powered out a 7-6 victory in 10 innings. Luis Rengifo (two runs), Eduardo Escobar and Mickey Moniak each had two hits and one RBI in the win. Shohei Ohtani plated a pair of runs as well.

In the starter role for the Thursday game one will be LA’s Ohtani. So far Ohtani is 8-5 with a 3.71 ERA and 148 strikeouts. In game two it’ll be Patrick Sandoval. In 2023 Sandoval is 5-7 with a 4.16 ERA in 17 starts.

Detroit Tigers

Over on the Detroit side, they scored four in the ninth inning Tuesday to push the game to extras but fell short. Spencer Torkelson came away with a pair of RBI in the loss as the team posted 12 hits. Riley Greene had a nice evening as well with a 3-for-5 line, one RBI and one run.

Michael Lorenzen will be up for the game one start Thursday. Lorenzen is 5-6 with a 3.49 ERA in 17 starts this year. Matt Manning will take the mound for the Tigers on Thursday in game two. Across his seven starts so far Manning is 3-1 with a 3.19 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 36.2 innings. Manning pitched 2.0 frames versus the Padres in his last outing with no earned, one hit and two walks.

ANDREW’S GAME 1 FREE PICK

I’ll try the Tigers here. Lorenzen is 3-0 in his last three starts with zero earned in 18.2 innings on eight hits and six walks. He’s rolling along nicely right now, but Ohtani is not. Over his last three starts, Ohtani is 1-2 with 14 earned over 16.1 innings. I don’t think Ohtani will pitch badly here, but I do think Detroit has a nice shot.

ANDREW’S GAME 2 FREE PICK

As for game two, I’ll try the Angels. Sandoval is 1-0 in the month of July, giving up two earned in 12.1 total innings on four hits and seven walks. Los Angeles has scored three or more runs in 14 of their last 15 games, so the offense should come along for the ride.
