Galopin Des Champs justified the hype by smashing his rivals in a high-quality renewal of the Cheltenham Gold Cup last season.

It was the crowning glory of a cracking first year in open company over fences for Willie Mullins’ stable star, with two more Grade 1s – the John Durkan Memorial Chase and Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup – also being captured.

Galopin Des Champs will bid to become the first horse since former Closutton resident Al Boum Photo to successfully defend the Cheltenham Gold Cup, although rivals old and new will be hoping to steal his crown.

The latest horse racing odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise everything you need to know about Galopin Des Champs’ next race is below.

Galopin Des Champs is set to follow an identical programme to last season, which means beginning his campaign in the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on Sunday, November 26.

If all goes to plan then the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at the Dublin Racing Festival would be next on the agenda before the spring festivals at Cheltenham and Punchestown.

Mullins told Sporting Life: “He’s come through all his pre-training. I’m very happy with him.

“It worked last year skipping Christmas so we’ll probably do the same this year.”
