High school notebook: BHS' Runyan sisters ready to make another state tourney tennis run; West boys capture Big 12 soccer

The Runyan sisters are preparing for the state tennis championships next weekend. They are playing in a sectional at BHS. The girls have a 22-3 record this season. Their team lost to their Normal Community rivals twice. Gabby wants to beat them once more this year. The sisters have improved their game this term. Coach Kari McGhee has seen their level of play rise. Mariel and Gaby are sad it's all about to end. It's their last season together. B HS is hosting a state tournament. Last year they were knocked out in the first round by Stevenson. This year the girls are using strategy and smarts.

Danville won the Big 12 Conference Girls Tennis Tournament. NCHS finished second. BHS was fourth, and Normal West ninth.

Normal West has won the Big 12 Conference boys soccer title. The Wildcats finished with an 8-1-2 league record. Urbana finished second at 7-3-4, and Normal Community and Peoria Notre Dame tied for third at7- 2-0. West's only league loss came early to NCHS, 3- 0, in the Intercity Tournament. Spencer Vincent scored three goals on Tuesday. DePaul recruit Owen Senn is a goalie for the team. The team is seeded No. 2 in Class 2A Chatham Glenwood Sectional complex and opens in Bloomington Regional against the host Raiders at 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 14.

Sydney Sennett has made 2,000th career assist in volleyball. She has broken the Wildcats' career record held by Dara Kane. She is a Morehead State recruit.

Bob Loy Natatorium at Bloomington High School is now called the Bob Loys Natoir. Lys retired in 2017 after 38 years as a teacher and head boys and girls swim coach. He will pass away in October 2020.
