13:05 Chepstow – First Flow

FIRST FLOW can get back to winning ways here for Kim Bailey and David Bass. He could go from the front and his experience and safe jumping might well make him hard to catch.

13:20 Kempton – Sir Gino

ITV do, of course, also go to Kempton for the second day of the Christmas meeting and get under way with this juvenile hurdle over 2m. SIR GINO will probably be the one to beat here for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. The French import looked good at Auteuil in April of this year and I suspect cost a few quid. Related to horses with a bit of speed so this track should be ideal.

13:40 Chepstow – Uncle Bert

This is a handicap hurdle over nearly 3m. UNCLE BERT has never lived up to expectations but he looked a decent prospect once upon a time. He’s now on a dangerous handicap mark of 124 and faces a step up in trip. If that is what he needs then he might just surprise a few for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies and his jockey-son Sam.

13:55 Kempton – Master Chewy

A Grade 2 in the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase over 2m. Nickel Back is technically the best horse and chased home Hermes Allen at Newbury. However, MASTER CHEWY can better his current mark for Nigel Twiston-Davies and score under Ton Bellamy. My hope kept on well in handicap company behind Elixir de Nutz last time.

14:10 Chepstow – Burdett Road

Up in class here for the Grade 2 Finale Juvenile Hurdle over 2m. I tipped up BURDETT ROAD at 33-1 for the Triumph Hurdle before he ever jumped a twig in public and he looks an absolute machine for Harry Cobden and James Owen. His speed at the end of the race is a strong weapon and it will be desperately disappointing if he gets beaten here after a facile success at Cheltenham last time.

14:30 Kempton – Boothill

Another Grade 2 in the Desert Orchid Handicap Chase over 2m. None of these are going to take centre stage in two-mile Grade 1 races and it’s hard to get away from the in-form BOOTHILL even under 11st 11lb. Jonathan Burke rides for Harry Fry after two victories at Ascot. The selection goes well at this track and took the Wayward Lad last year.

14:50 Chepstow – Iwilldoit

For many the big betting race of the day in the Welsh National over an extended 3m6f. IWILLDOIT has to hump 12st but he won this race in 2021 off 140 and has every chance here even off 153 as a horse who is in form and stays well. My hope was not disgraced in the Midlands National when 2lb higher and returned with a fine second in a hurdle race at Aintree. That suggested he was in fine shape as a prep of this and Dylan Johnston takes off a useful 7lb. Sam Thomas trains the 10-year-old.

15:09 Kempton – Enrilo (each way)

Here’s a handicap chase over 3m. ENRILO showed a bit more last time at Wincanton where he dropped away but then ran on a bit at the end. He’s down another 2lb to 135 now and Angus Cheleda takes off 5lb. That means the Paul Nicholls hope is dangerously well handicapped and I am happy to have a few quid eachway.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
