The 1987 Gold Cup was postponed because of heavy snowfall. Forgive’N Forget was the favourite to win the race. The Thinker trained by Arthur Stephenson in County Durham was second favourite. W. A. was saddling a winner at Hexham instead.   in the 1930s the Gold Cups were postponed twice due to bad weather. In 1962/63 the weather was bad, but in 1978 it was better. This year's Gold cup was won by Midnight Court. It was held on the final day of the Festival. 1985 winner For forgive‘N forget was a favourite, having won the previous year.
