Thomson is hoping to keep Empire Steel in shape for the Aintree National on Saturday. He also has plans for Scottish Borders National at Kelso on Sunday. The Ferry Master, Flower of Scotland and Donna's Delight are also in the running. The last three National races have been disappointing for Thomson. His last two runners have gone off favourite and none of them has finished. It's a pity that the 2017 meeting was abandoned. Thomson won the last four renewals of the National with Neptune Equester and Harry The Viking. In the past three years, two of his runners went off the favourite.
