Both the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers weathered the storm late in their respective NFC Divisional Round games to punch their tickets to the NFC Championship Game. Just like in the AFC, it's the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds that remain standing as they'll now square off with a trip to Super Bowl LVIII on the line.

The NFC Championship Game between the Lions and 49ers kicks off on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. CT on Fox. Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen will be on the call for the national broadcast.

Levi's Stadium will play host to the latest in a long line of battles between two of the league's most historic franchises. While this duel won't break a record for most playoff meetings as the Green Bay Packers and 49ers did in the Divisional Round, these teams are no strangers to each other.

When the ball is kicked on Sunday in the "Bay Area" — Levi's Stadium is closer to San Jose than it is Oakland or San Francisco — it'll mark the 69th time these two teams have faced off. Perhaps the more remarkable statistic is this will be only the third time they've met in the playoffs and first in a conference championship game.

The all-time playoff series between the two sides is split at one apiece. San Francisco got the better of Detroit in the 1983 NFC Divisional Playoffs, 24-23, at Candlestick Park. However, it was the Lions who beat the 49ers when they first played in the postseason, 31-27, in a 1957 Western Conference Playoff game.

San Francisco owns the lead in the all-time series, 39-28-1.

The 49ers have dominated lately, though. They've won 11 of the last 12 games against the Lions dating back to the mid-1990s. Detroit's only win during that span was a 32-17 victory back in 2015. San Francisco has won all but three of the 21 meetings since they last met in the playoffs in 1983. Dominant is a bit of an understatement, even though four of the last five have finished as one-score games.

The last time these two teams took the field together, Jared Goff and the Lions were beaten 41-33 by Jimmy Garoppolo's 49ers. A lot has changed since then, but some of the game's biggest faces were on the field in 2021. Goff, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Amon-Ra St. Brown all played. Brandon Aiyuk, Jahmyr Gibbs, Christian McCaffrey, David Montgomery and others will be squaring off against one another for the first time on Sunday.

Will Detroit's miracle run come to an end or will they continue into the Super Bowl? Oddsmakers have had their say already with the posted lines.

FanDuel Sportsbook is favoring the hosts by a touchdown with a total set at 50.5. San Francisco (-300) has an implied probability of 75%, which means it is a heavy favorite to take part in its second Super Bowl in the last five seasons.

The 49ers dropped to .500 on the year (9-9) against the spread when it failed to cover -10.5 against Green Bay in the Divisional round. The Lions, on the other hand, maintained a lead atop the boards over the Baltimore Ravens with their cover to improve to 13-6 ATS on the season.

Let's take a closer look at the odds from FanDuel Sportsbook, as of Monday, Jan. 22, 2024:
