Padres vs Tigers Prediction

The Detroit Tigers will host the San Diego Padres for game two of their interleague series this Saturday from Comerica Park. San Diego took game one after a fast start, 5-4.

Padres Betting Preview

San Diego moved to 47-51 after defeating Detroit. The Padres responded to being swept by Philly with a thumping victory, and they’ll look to double down here Wednesday. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .228, with a .317 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.76 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP. Juan Soto powered the game one victory with a pair of homers, and he leads the Pads in home runs (19) and RBI (57). Fernando Tatis brings a five-game hit streak into this matchup, and he leads the Pads in batting (.284) and hits (93), with 17 home runs and 49 RBI. Manny Machado has recorded a bit in six of the last nine games, and he’s posting splits of .255/18/54.

Jackson Wolf (0-0, 0.00) is set to start for San Diego. This will mark the MLB debut for the rookie left-hander.

Tigers Betting Preview

Detroit moved to 44-53 after falling to San Diego. The Tigers weren’t able to erase a five runs lead, and they’ll look to start faster Saturday. The Detroit offense is scoring 2.72 runs per game, while batting .230, with a .300 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.41 ERA, with a 1.26 WHIP. Riley Greene provided a two-run shot in game one, and he’s leading the Tigers in batting (.300), with 22 RBI.. Spencer Torkelson leads Detroit in hits (83), home runs (14), and RBI (52).

Matt Manning (3-1, 3.72 ERA, 20 Ks) will take the hill for Detroit. The third-year righty returned to action with a solid outing in Kansas City, going 5.2 innings, while holding the Royals to just one run.  Manning has been pretty solid for the Tigers through six starts, and he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings in his lone home appearance against Toronto just before the break.

San Diego vs Detroit Trends

San Diego is 48-50 against the spread this season, with a 40-51-7 O/U record. Detroit is 51-46 ATS this year, with a 50-43-4 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

San Diego trotting a first-year pitcher to the mound may put some value on them heading into this game two contest, and it shouldn’t be overlooked. The Padres possess the most potent big three in baseball, and that itself, is trustworthy against a gritty Tigers team. Matt Manning has been solid, but the Pads have the bats to make any rookie pitcher uncomfortable. Manning may keep Detroit in this game early, but the talent gap may be all we need for a SD win. Back San Diego for this interleague battle.
