2011 Bruins Stanley Cup champion to be inducted into Flyers HOF

Mark Recchi will earn his spot in Flyers history when he’s inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in a pregame ceremony on Jan. 27 in front of the team he won one of his three Stanley Cups with.

The Bruins will be in town for the induction at Wells Fargo Center.

“This is a tremendous honor and one I was not expecting to get the call for,” Recchi said in a statement released by the Flyers. “My time in Philadelphia meant a lot, still means a lot, to me and I am very thankful to be the next inductee into the Flyers Hall of Fame. Thank you to Dan (Hilferty), Keith (Jones) and the nomination and voting committees for this opportunity. I look forward to sharing this memory with my family, the fans, fellow Flyers Alumni and the entire Flyers organization.”

Recchi was acquired by the Bruins from the Tampa Bay Lightning at the 2008-09 trade deadline. He amassed 16 points in 18 games before signing a one-year extension with the B’s. He signed another extension for the 2010-11 season and put up his highest point total (48) since the 2008-09 campaign (61).

In Game 2 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final against the Vancouver Canucks, Recchi became the oldest player to score a goal in a Cup Final game at age 43. He capped off his stellar 22-year career by lifting Lord Stanley and announcing his retirement shortly after the Game 7 victory.

Recchi also won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins (1991) and the Carolina Hurricanes (2006). He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017.

Although he never accomplished the ultimate goal with the Flyers, Recchi spent 10 total seasons with Philly after getting drafted by the Penguins in 1988. He played in 602 games for Philly and had 232 goals with 395 assists.
