2022 Kentucky Derby is back in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 7. Last year's Derby was attended by millions of people.
The Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race held on the first Saturday in May. It was founded in 1874 by Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr. The 2022 Derby will be the 148th edition. Over 150,000 people will attend the race. Last year's winner, Medina Spirit, was stripped of his title after testing positive for an anti-inflammatory steroid.
The Kentucky Derby is held annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Triple Crown is an annual series of three races from May to early June featuring 3-year-old horses. The Kentucky Derby is the first of the three contests, followed by the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore and the Belmont Stake in Elmont, New York.
The Kentucky Oaks will take place at 5:51 p.m. ET Friday as part of a full day of races. The post time for the first race is 10:30 a.M. on Derby Day.
The 2022 Kentucky Derby will be aired on NBC beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET. NBC first won the rights for the Kentucky derby in 2001. In 2014, the two sides agreed to an extension through 2025, including the 150th KentuckyDerby in 2024.
