2022/23 A-League Women Season Preview: Canberra United
Canberra United had a disappointing season in 2020/21. A new coach and new identity will bring excitement back to the team.
Canberra United finished last season with just two points from six matches. They conceded 29 goals and struggled to find their finishing ability. Vicki Linton resigned at the end of the season. Njegosh Popovich will take over as coach for the upcoming season at Canberra United.
Vesna Milivojevic, Grace Jale and Chelsee Washington are the biggest arrivals in the A-League Women's squad. Milovojeva returns to Australia as a Serbian international. Jales played for BV Borussia Bocholt and ZFK Spartak Subotica in Europe.
Lauren Keir departs Canberra United to join the Western Sydney Wanderers. Matilda Karly Roestbakken has switched to City blue for this season. She will be replaced by veteran Ellie Brush and Canadian international Kennedy Faulknor.
Canberra United are preparing for the 22nd/23 A-League Women Season Preview. Popovich hasn't held a head coaching role for a number of seasons. He spent the past five years as an assistant at the Junior Matildas. Canberra will be a strong chance-creating team like last season. New signings Brush, Faulknor and Taranto are expected to start in the starting XI. Emma Ilijoski will have a chance to have more consistent season and Jale can play in any position. Michelle Heyman will benefit from playing up front again. Hayley Taylor-Young could change the team's formation.
