2023 AL MVP odds: Shohei Ohtani favored to win award for second time

The 2022 American League Most Valuable Player race was one of the best award races in recent history with Aaron Judge besting reigning winner Shohei Ohtani behind the most home runs in league history, hammering 62.

Can Judge follow it up in 2023? Oddsmakers have installed Ohtani, the hitting and pitching star of the Angels, as the favorite once again on the heels of his epic World Baseball Classic save for Team Japan. Ohtani enters the season at +190, per DraftKings Sportsbook.

It took a record breaking season to beat Ohtani in 2023, and if the Angels superstar is in form once again this season, it’ll be a daunting task to beat him. His teammate that he struck out to win the WBC, Mike Trout, is the second choice to win the award, the only other player ahead of Judge, and will look to put together a complete season alongside Ohtani as the Angels try to make the postseason for the first time since 2014.

The only other name inside of +1000 is Julio Rodriguez, the second year star for the Seattle Mariners who took home Rookie of the Year in his first season. After that, sluggers Yordan Alvarez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are +1100 and +1200, respectively.
