2023 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am golf betting picks and DFS options
The PGA Tour returns to the Monterey Peninsula for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. We have yet another week with multiple courses. The event is held across three different courses for the first three rounds, with the final round played at Pebble Beach. So what does it take to succeed at this event (besides the patience of playing with amateurs)? Well it’s pretty simple: you need to be elite with your wedges, specifically 100-125 yards, and be an above average putter, especially on poa annua greens. Let’s take a look at a few players to target this week:
Andrew Putnam $9,700
All the stars are aligning for Putnam, who has knocked on victory’s door at Pebble before. He comes into the event on a crazy made-cut streak dating back to mid July of 2022. Even crazier is that he has kept that solid play going into weekends, finishing 48th or better in each event. He is the best putter in the field, especially on poa annua greens. He is no slouch in other areas as he ranks fifth in around the green and top 20 in approach. It’s about time Putnam returns to the winner’s circle.
Ben Griffin $8,600
Ben Griffin is a name you will hear a lot as 2023 progresses. This PGA Tour rookie has made his last nine cuts, including seven top-32 finishes. This may be the best event for Griffin on Tour as it plays to his strengths: wedges and putting. He is the top ranked player in my data model for this event as he is first in birdies, eighth in approach, ninth in approach from 100-125 yards, and also top 25 in putting. The $8,600 price is very cheap for a player who is likely to finish top 20 this week.
Kurt Kitayama $7,500
In a weak field like this, Kitayama has a lot of upside at such a low salary. How many players in this field, let alone this price range, have four top-three finishes on the PGA Tour in the last year? He ranks seventh overall in my data model this week as he is top 15 in approach, off the tee, and in birdies. He is an average putter but possesses the ability to have spike weeks where he is unconscious with the flatstick. He has shown upside in this event, finishing 18th a few years back.
