2023 LIV Picks: Jeddah Odds and Expert Betting Predictions

After a two-week hiatus, LIV Golf is heading to Royal Greens Golf & Country Club for its Jeddah event, the final event before the LIV Golf Team Championship in Miami next week. This week marks the final chance to win the individual title in the LIV Tour season-long chase. Mathematically speaking, only three players have a chance to win the point race and the $18 million prize. Cameron Smith is currently on top with 170 points followed by Talor Gooch at 162 points and the hard-charging Bryson DeChambeau at 146 points. A tournament winner receives 32 points and Smith can put all the numbers to rest with a victory.

If you have been following Doc’s Sports LIV predictions since we started in April and you have put 1-unit on every winner prediction, you are at +900 on the season, with this Jeddah event and one team event in Miami to go. Doc’s Sports will break down this weekend’s best bets in Saudi Arabia below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets

Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Saudi Arabia plays at a par 70 and measures just a tad over 7,000 yards. A short course in the modern day, hitting it long and coupling that with a strong short game is the key to victory. Projected windy conditions should keep scoring down over the weekend. There are five former course winners in this field that include Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell, Abraham Ancer, Harold Varner III, and last year’s winner Brooks Koepka.

Dustin Johnson +1200

DJ might have extra fire and motivation this week after being left out of the Ryder Cup and to prove he belongs with the top dogs in LIV despite not having a chance in the points race this year. If there is any venue on the LIV calendar where Johnson can thrive, Royal Greens is it. He holds the course record in one round with a 61 and for 72 holes when he won the Saudi International in 2019. DJ went on to win that event again in 2021. Last season he finished T5 and shot a 68 or lower in all three rounds. At 12/1, why not take a chance on DJ at a course he loves to play with some added motivation?

Talor Gooch +1400

I am back on the Gooch bandwagon and believe he has the best chance to steal the big prize money away from Cam Smith this weekend. He has three wins on tour this season including back-to-back earlier in the year. Gooch heads into this event after a seventh-place finish in Chicago while Smith finished in 40th. He also had the best finish on this course last season out of the top trio in the point race. Back Gooch and his momentum to pick up his fourth win of the season after never winning a tournament on the PGA Tour.

Brooks Koepka +1600

Koepka’s another guy searching for his third career LIV victory and is the defending champion heading into this weekend. Like DJ, he could be playing with some extra fire inside him after a poor showing at the Ryder Cup against Team Europe. The level of competition is much weaker in this event, which could benefit Brooks. His iron play has been stupendous this season, ranking seventh on LIV in greens in regulation percentage. He finished second in Chicago in putting average and should continue his strong play this week. I will back the five-time major winner to repeat in LIV’s final individual event of the year.
