2023 LIV Picks: Washington DC Odds and Expert Betting Predictions

The LIV Golf season has reached the halfway point and heads to Potomac Falls, Virginia, for the LIV Golf Washington DC event. Brooks Koepka just won his fifth career major, as he took down his third PGA Championship at Oak Hill in Rochester, New York. No surprise he is the favorite at +700 odds this weekend. Behind him sits Cam Smith, Dustin Johnson, and Talor Gooch, amongst others, who will compete for the winner’s circle on Sunday. We will dive into the course and best bets below.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets

Trump National Golf Club will host the event, which is described as a “links-style championship course.” While nobody in this field has ever played this course at the professional level, it has been mainly utilized for the Senior PGA Tour. This private venue features a lengthy layout with bentgrass greens. The course is a par-72 and measures at 7,479 yards. Distance and putting will be key this weekend, so look for big hitters to find success at America’s capitol.

Cam Smith +800

I love Cam Smith’s chances this week at DC. He is coming off three straight LIV events with top-10 finishes, including losing the playoff to DJ in Tulsa. Smith is third in the LIV points race despite being the only player in the top three without a victory this season. In his last three LIV events, he has finished fourth, seventh, and a T2. He enters DC coming off a T9 in the PGA Championship that included a final round of 65, so his game is trending in the right direction. Look for Smith to get his first victory of the 2023 season.

Dustin Johnson +1200

It is no secret that Dustin Johnson can smash a golf ball. A week removed from making the cut at the PGA Championship, DJ returns to LIV Golf attempting to win back-to-back events following his LIV Tulsa victory. Johnson has won three times on the LIV Golf Tour, if we include his role in leading the 4 Aces to last year’s team championship at LIV Miami. Dustin’s putter was on fire in Tulsa, averaging just 1.37 putts per hole. Look for Johnson to be in contention this weekend.

Bryson DeChambeau +2200

Speaking of long hitters, Bryson’s golf game is shaping up in fine form recently. Entering this week, DeChambeau finished T4 at the PGA Championship, and finished seventh at LIV Tulsa. His LIV Tulsa performance marked his best finish since joining the rival circuit. His driver should easily shorten this course for him this weekend. The real question will be how he handles the greens. In his last full season on Tour, he finished T8 at the Shriners, T34 at the Masters, and T55 at the AT&T Byron Nelson. All three of those courses have bentgrass greens. At +2200 odds, I see good value taking Bryson this weekend.

Harold Varner III +2200

Varner is an interesting case at +2200 odds this weekend. He played well last week, finishing T29 at the PGA Championship and has improved finishing position every time out on the LIV circuit. He went from 28th to 27th to 19th to 17th to 9th and finished fourth in Tulsa. If this trend continues, he could be standing at the winner’s podium on Sunday.
