2023 NBA Draft Lottery odds: Every team's chance to land No. 1 pick

The 2023 NBA Draft Lottery takes place on Tuesday night, and it’s one of the more intriguing events in all of sports, especially with the prospect at the top of the draft this season.

The winner of this year’s lottery will have the right to draft French phenom Victor Wembanyama, who is considered to be one of the greatest prospects since LeBron James. The Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs all have the best chance (14.0 percent) of landing the No. 1 pick and the right to draft Wembanyama.

However, we’ve seen crazier things happen with the lottery before with teams jumping up spots. Just a few seasons ago, the New Orleans Pelicans jumped several slots to draft Zion Williamson with the No. 1 overall pick.

With that in mind, bettors could cash in big if that happens again this season. FanDuel has released odds for the draft lottery on Tuesday night, and the No. 1 pick odds are mighty juicy with the Pistons, Rockets and Spurs tied at +550.

Here are the odds and a few things to know about the draft lottery this year:

Actual odds for 2023 NBA Draft Lottery

The odds above are , and they show each team’s odds to land in each spot. So, Detroit can’t fall anywhere past the No. 5 pick, while a team like New Orleans can either land in the top four, or in its projected spot at No. 14.

If a team jumps into the top four, it will bounce one of the top four teams from that spot.

Pick protections in 2023 NBA Draft

There are two picks that could go to different teams because of previous trades, and that will hinge on the results of the lottery.

The Dallas Mavericks’ draft pick is top-10 protected from the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks. If the pick lands outside the top 10, the Knicks will receive the selection. Right now, Dallas is supposed to end up with the No. 10 pick, meaning it will keep that selection.

The Chicago Bulls’ draft pick may end up being conveyed to the Orlando Magic.

Chicago sits in the No. 11 spot, but the team will only keep the pick if it lands in the top four, as it is top four protected from the Nikola Vucevic trade a few seasons ago.

Those are the only two picks that could switch hands based on the lottery results.
