2024 PGA Picks: Sentry Tournament of Champions Odds and Expert Betting Predictions

Welcome to 2024, everybody! To start the new year, the PGA Tour is heading to Hawaii for the season’s first signature event. The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui will once again play host to a 59-man field this weekend. There will be no back-to-back winner, as superstar Jon Rahm bounced from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf in a move that shook the golf world to its core. But still, there is no shortage of talent as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will tee it off this weekend along with names like Viktor Hovland, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, and Jordan Spieth. The two notable names not participating are Rory Mcllroy and Justin Thomas. Doc’s Sports will break down some of the best wagers for this weekend as we carry a +2,705 from the fall slate that counted towards 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets

The Plantation Course of Kapalua has remarkable views for spectators and has been hosting this event since 2015. The course plays at a par 73 and measures in at 7,596 yards. Kapalua is about as stress-free of a driving venue as they come on the PGA Tour. The average fairway width is 49.2 yards, which is the second widest out of all PGA courses. This course also ranks as the easiest in strokes gained: off-the-tee difficulty.

Collin Morikawa +1200

I am looking for the 26-year-old to avenge his meltdown last season against Rahm. This is his fifth appearance at this event, and he has been brilliant on this course. His finishes include a T7-T7-T5-2. He registered a victory in his last event in the fall at the ZOZO Championship, and his game has been trending in the right direction. The California native finished 2023 fourth on Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and ranks second in Strokes Gained Approach. Everyone in this field should be on notice if his putter warms up this weekend, and he should be a force to be reckoned with.

Xander Schauffele +1400

I am very comfortable taking Xander at 14-1 odds, as he has been one of the best ball-strikers over the past 12 months. He can also brag about his putting, as he ranks sixth in this field over his last 50 rounds. This combination of accuracy off the tee, approach play, and reliable putting makes him very dangerous to his competitors on easier setups like Kapalua. He has tallied finishes of first, second, fifth, and 12th on Maui since 2019. Take Schauffele to be your leading man for this weekend in Hawaii.

Tom Kim +2500

The 21-year-old comes into this year as one of the hottest names on the board. Over his last 10 worldwide starts, Kim has no finish worse than 25th; recording a win, a runner-up, and three additional top-10s. These results have been on the back of his putter and iron play. With a fifth-place finish here last season, 25-1 odds is very intriguing.

Eric Cole Top-10 Finish +400

Cole was one of the hottest golfers on the planet in the fall, and I see no reason why that can’t continue this season. The weakest part of his game is off the tee, and this course is one of the easiest on Tour. He ranks in the top-10 in this field in birdies or better gained, easy scoring conditions, proximity from 200-plus yards, slow green putting, lag putting, and overall approach play. Cole is a strong top-10 play at 4-1 odds.
