49ers vs. Eagles on Sunday: Preview, odds and best bets

In a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship game, The Philadelphia Eagles (10-1) host the San Francisco 49ers (8-3) on Sunday. Few NFL bettors would be shocked if these two teams met again in this postseason with a chance to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl on the line.

These two are easily the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, per DraftKings. Sign up for DraftKings today and bet at one of the top online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania.

Let’s get to previewing this anticipated rematch before giving some best bets.

Philadelphia’s past three opponents were Dallas, Kansas City and Buffalo. Their next two are San Francisco and Dallas. Maybe excluding Buffalo, that’s a “who’s who” of Super Bowl contenders. Philly has won the first three and have the league’s best record at 10-1.

While 49ers fans feel that last postseason’s result would have been different had Purdy not gotten injured, the Eagles have had the Niners number in recent years, winning eight of the past 11 meetings and covering the spread in nine of them.

With the amount of offensive weapons the 49ers have, they have become nearly impossible to defend. Christian McCaffrey’s success is well-documented, but the Brock Purdy to Brandon Aiyuk connection has been just as important.

Not to be outdone, San Francisco’s defense has also been excellent during their current three-game winning streak, allowing an average of 10 points per game. They will have their hands full on Sunday against the league’s third-best scoring offense.

The spread in this game is a little tricky, so we prefer rolling with the under. The past five meetings between these teams have gone under the total. Additionally, in the 49ers’ past 14 games as road favorites, 12 have hit the under. In a game between two excellent defenses, points could come at a premium.

As mentioned above, the 49ers have so many ways to beat you, and Kittle is another weapon in the arsenal. The All-Pro tight end has scored a touchdown in two of his past three games and faces a juicy matchup. Philadelphia is the worst team in the league at defending tight ends. San Francisco should look to exploit that matchup when they get in the red zone. We also like the over on 46.5 receiving yards (-119, Caesars), but the payout is much better on this TD prop.
