Homestead-Miami Speedway

Homestead, FL

This week NASCAR will head back to Homestead-Miami Speedway in South Florida for the 4Ever 400. This 400-mile race is quite a challenge for an intermediate oval and will be an exciting race with so much on the line. This is a 1.5-mile true oval track with variable banking and is the first time we've seen this track since October of last year. This is a different configuration than most drivers are used to, and it includes 20 degrees of variable banking in the turns and three degrees in the straight-aways, which are pretty flat compared to most. In the overall Playoff race, this is the eighth race, and the tension keeps ramping up as we get closer and closer to crowing a champion.

Homestead-Miami Speedway played host the NASCAR Cup Series season finale for 21 years. Each season, this location was where a Cup Series champion was named, and it was the climax to the entire season. After 2019, the people in charge decided to shake things up and move Homestead to an early date in the season. When the pandemic hit, Homestead was moved to a date in the middle of summer during 2020, but back to an early spot in 2021. For the last two seasons, this race was moved closer to its original place in the schedule. In 2022, NASCAR moved this race to a playoff spot and made this race one that leads up to the final races of the season. With all that said, it's been a whole year since we've raced here so expect an exciting and action-packed race. With so much on the line, we expect to see some fireworks. Hendrick Motorsports will look to continue their dominance that they've shown over the last two races at this track.

South Point 400 Recap

Kyle Larson went out and took this race the tried-and-true way. He was able to lead the most laps in the race while sweeping the stages in a hard-fought race. It wasn't an easy finish as he had to fight off Christopher Bell, who was coming hard, but Larson was able to do it in the end by 0.082 seconds. As the two drivers approached the finish line, Larson was able to block the final charge from Bell and lock in his spot into the Round of Four.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

With this win, Kyle Larson put himself back on top of the leader board and locked his spot to the next round. William Byron is currently sitting in second place with 4,077 points while Martin Truex Jr. is in third with 4,070 points. Following him up is Denny Hamlin with 4070 points as well and Christopher Bell sits in the fifth spot with 4,068 points.

While Kyle Larson could figuratively take his foot off the gas after getting the win last weekend and punching his ticket to the next round, he comes back to a track where he has done well in the past. Larson took the checkered flag last season at this race and finished runner-up back in 2016. Larson is a fan of using the high groove on this track and it has been a sound strategy in the past. We'll see if he can do it again this weekend and I like his chances.
