Wednesday is a good day to take a moment to discuss the upcoming MLB rule changes. The changes include expanding the playoffs to six teams and giving the 2nd seed a bye. The Braves need to win the game against the Titans. They are in a playoff chase.

The MLB is introducing a pitch clock between pitches next season. It will be 20 seconds between deliveries with runners on. The traditionalist in me would hate it, but I like it more than I expected. The Athletic charted the differences in time between the MLB and across Triple A last Wednesday. Triple a has a 14-second pitchclock. In 2021, games in the minor leagues will average 2:38. MLB games will take 3 hours, 4 minutes. This season, the games averaged 2.38 with the clock. Baseball games are averaging 3:00. in 2021.

Regulating organic changes and strategery in sports is a dicey proposition.

The new rule changes the rules of baseball. Teams must have two infielders on each side of second and they must keep their feet in the dirt. This is going to create some issues for MLB hitters. The new rules do not put players back in their traditional positions. The rules are not as extreme as they seem. It is not going be as drastic as it seems. There is one period per game in which the goalie does not get to wear pads.

The current MLB standings are as follows: Dodgers and Astros have clinched the West Division, Cardinals and Guardians are leading the other divisions, Blue Jays, Rays and Mariners are the wildcard leaders in the AL, and Braves, Padres and Phillies are in second place in NL. The Braves are currently tied for first in their division, but they trail by a game in East. If the season ended today, the Braves would be the 4 seed in a three-game set at St. Louis.
