7/18/23 MLB Pick and Prediction

The Oakland Athletics will host the Boston Red Sox for game two of their three-game set this Tuesday from the Oakland Coliseum. Boston took care of business in game one with a seven-run silencer, 7-0.

White Sox Betting Preview

Boston moved to 51-44 after taking down Oakland. The Red Sox have now won ten of twelve to open July, and they’ll look to capitalize on the lowly A’s again Tuesday. The Boston offense is 4.18 scoring runs per game, while batting .258, with a .340 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.89 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Masataka Yoshida went off in the series finale against Chicago, homering, tripling, and plating six total runs, and he leads Boston in batting (.316), with 50 RBI. Rafael Devers homered three times at Wrigley, and he’s first on the team in HR (23) and RBI (73). Justin Turner has produced a run in eight of the last ten contests, and he’s posting splits of .290/14/58, while leading the Sox in hits (101).

Boston has yet to name a starter, indicating that game two could serve as a bullpen day.

Athletics Betting Preview

Oakland moved to 25-71 after losing to Boston. The Athletics have now dropped eight straight games, and the lack of competitive spirit has grown embarrassing. The Oakland offense is scoring 2.81 runs per game, while batting .222, with a .303 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 6.00 ERA, with a 1.62 WHIP. Brent Rooker has collected a hit in six of the last nine games, and he leads the team in home runs (16) and RBI (44). Ryan Noda has matched his energy with hits in seven of the previous ten games, and he’s posting a line of .225/10/37.

Luis Medina (2-7, 6.34 RRA, 58 Ks) will make the start for Oakland. The rookie righty closed his first half of major league ball by tossing a personal-best nine strikeouts in six innings against Boston. Medina has naturally endured his fair share of rookie struggles, but he’ll attempt to replicate his first effort against the Sox here.

Boston vs Oakland Trends

Boston is 51-44 against the spread this season, with a 50-42-3 O/U record. Oakland is 45-51 ATS this year, with a 49-40-7 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Boston has hit their stride this month, and it’s very unlikely Oakland hands them a blemish here. The Athletics are baseball poverty, and they should be targeted each time out for the remainder of 2023. No Esteury Ruiz for the A’s will make them even more limited in constraint to what the Red Sox have been able to do offensively. It might not come as blatant, but Boston should win this ball game, back them confident Tuesday.
