Red Sox vs Diamondbacks Prediction

The Boston Red Sox will head out to Phoenix to start a three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks this Friday from Chase Field.

Red Sox Betting Preview

Boston moved to 26-24 after being swept by Los Angeles. The Red Sox have two separate four-game skids this month, and they’ll look to get back into the win column this weekend. The Boston offense is 4.76 scoring runs per game, while batting .258, with a .340 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.89 ERA, with a 1.34 WHIP. Alex Verdugo is hitless in his last three games, but he still leads the team in hits (53) and runs (37). Rafael Devers was also quiet in Anaheim, and he still leads the Sox in HR (13) and RBI (44). Masataka Yoshida has collected a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he’s posting solid splits of .299/6/29.

Chris Sale (4-2, 5.01 ERA, 62 Ks) will get the ball for Boston. The longtime Sox pitcher has been sharp this month, and he earned his fourth victory of the season in San Diego on Sunday, striking out eight over seven innings of work, while allowing just two runs. Sale has pitched four straight quality starts, and it looks like he’s put the slow start to 2023 behind him. Sale has cleared eight or more strikeouts in each of his last three outings.

Diamondbacks Betting Preview

Arizona moved to 29-21 after taking two of three from Philadelphia. The Diamondbacks’ time in Pennsylvania was successful, ripping off four straight over the Pirates and Phillies, and they’ll look to keep things going in the desert. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.78 runs per game, while batting .273, with a .332 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.84 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has been on a tear with a hit in twelve straight games, and he leads the DBacks in batting (.317), with eight homers and 27 RBI. Geraldo Perdomo produced a pair of runs in the game one victory, and he’s right behind Gurriel Jr. with a .315 BA.  Christian Walker leads the DBacks in HR (11) and RBI (34).

Brandon Pfaadt (0-1, 7.65 ERA, 14 Ks) will get the call for Arizona. The rookie pitcher hasn’t found much success through his first four starts, allowing fourteen runs combined, while clearing four strikeouts just once.

Boston vs Arizona Trends

Boston is 27-23 against the spread this season, with a 30-18-2 O/U record. Arizona is 21-29 ATS this year, with a 25-22-3 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Boston heads into the desert looking for a few answers to stop this skid, and this may be their best chance to steal one this weekend. Chris Sale has been dialed in, and his recent form warrants some trust here. With the DBacks set to send a rookie to the mound, the Red Sox bats’ should be able to capitalize on that and provide the necessary run support. Back Boston in game one, and give the Over a look just in case Arizona finds a way to get to Sale.
