A Preview of The 2023 Barbasol Championship

This Thursday, The PGA Tour and DP World Tour are hosting the 2023 Barbasol Championship. For the fifth time, this co-sanctioned event will be played at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, KY. This tournament will feature a purse of $3.8 million.

Last season the Barbasol Championship was won by Trey Mullinax who shot a 25-under 263. A clutch birdie on the eighteenth hole allowed Mullinax to edge out Kevin Streelman, who finished in solo-second after carding a 24-under 264.

The unique nature of this event will see around 50 DP World Tour players heading to Kentucky in search of some elusive FedExCup points. These points will be granted as “non-PGA member points”. Despite this, the points will still play a crucial role in some of these pros earning their PGA Tour cards.

This year’s field includes Taylor Pendrith and Lucas Glover who will attempt to conquer the 7,328-yard par-72 track.

Peter Kuest – During the 2022-23 season, Kuest has been stepping up to the plate. His first two seasons as a pro got off to a rough start, but the past four competitions have shown that he is beginning to mature as a pro. A top-five finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic provides him the momentum needed to finish strong this week.

Cameron Champ – Despite having one of the worst seasons of his PGA Tour career, Cameron Champ faces favorable odds this week. Even though he is no longer ranked in the world golf ranking’s top 100, there is an upside. Champ is going against a field that is on the weaker side, making it the perfect week to bounce back.

Kevin Streelman – Although he has only placed in the top ten once this season, Kevin Streelman should not be overlooked. While his performance has been average thus far, he will be looking to take his revenge after a heart-breaking loss at the same event last season.

The Barbasol Championship can be viewed on Golf Channel throughout the tournament. The event’s first group will begin play at 6:45 am ET. The final group of the first round will tee off at 2:22 pm ET.

The PGA Tour is also hosting the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open on Thursday. This event will take place at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick.
