PGA Tour best bets: Rocket Mortgage Classic

Tony Finau won the 3M Open in the Twin Cities as the pre-tournament favorite. Finua is the second choice on the board at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. Patrick Cantlay makes his debut in this tournament. Cam Davis is defending champion. Adam Scott is in his first tournament in Michigan. Kevin Kisner finished eighth here last year and third in 2020. Kevin Riley, Keegan Bradley, Adam Hadwin, Cameron Tringale, Maverick McNealy, and Webb Simpson are also playing.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is in its fourth year in Detroit as a PGA Tour event. This year's field has five of the Top 20 players, including the fourth-ranked player, Patrick Cantlay. It's one of last two events for players to assure themselves of a spot in the top 125 of FedEx Cup standings.

Detroit Golf Club's North Course was designed in 1916 by Donald Ross. It's a classical, tree-lined, flat parklands layout that plays as a Par 72 of 7,370 yards. The front nine is a little more challenging than the back nine. There are four Par 5s, four par 3s and 10 par 4s. The Bentgrass fairways are relatively wide (36 yards on average) and the 4-inch rough is Bluegrass mix.

Donald Ross designs are or have been part of the PGA Tour schedule. The most comparable courses from a distance and scoring standpoint are TPC Twin Cities, Sedgefield, Silverado and TPG Deere Run. Rocket Mortgage Classic is one of their best bets.

DeChambeau won the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Good drives are drives that hit the fairway off the tee or misses the Fairway but still hits the green or fringe in regulation. Brian Stuard believes driving it straight is important on the PGA Tour.

Rocket Mortgage Classic is a birdie-fest type event. Opportunities Gained provides context as to which players have been setting themselves up for birdies and eagles.

Detroit Golf Club has more Par 4s than most tour courses measuring between 350 and 400 yards.

The four Par 5s at Detroit Golf Club are all 550 yards or longer.

Cameron Davis is the defending champion of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He's fourth in this week's field for Opportunities Gained and sixth for Birdie Or Better Gained.

Maverick McNealy is a 45-1 favorite to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He has made the cut twice at Rocket mortgage Classic and finished eighth there in 2020.

Taylor Pendrith missed around four months with a fractured rib and had to withdraw from the John Deere Classic due to COVID-19. He made his return three weeks ago with 13th at the Barbasol and then 11th in the Barracuda. Pendriith ranks seventh in this week's field for Strokes Gained: Off-The-Tee.

Brendan Steele is a good value at 70-1 DraftKings. He didn't make the cut at the 3M Open last week. Steele ranks No. 1 in Strokes Gained: Ball Striking over the last 24 rounds.

Cameron Champ is a 75-1 DraftKings player. Champ has missed five cuts this season. He finished 16th last week.

Callum Tarren finished seventh at the 3M Open last week. He has been inside the top-25 in three of his last four starts.

Michael Thorbjornsen is an amateur golfer who finished fourth at the Travelers Championship. He is the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event since Phil Mickelson in 1991.

Richie Ramsay won the Cazoo Classic at a price of 28-1. Paul Waring was runner-up. Ramsay, Wared and Julien Guerrier are in the field this week at the Hero Open at Fairmont St. Andrews. Ryan Fox has a victory, three runners-ups and a third in just 15 starts in 2022. Adrian Otaegui won Scottish Championship on this course in 2020.

Hero Open was created as part of the DP World Tour’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The inaugural tournament was held at Forest of Arden in England. Last year, the tournament moved to its current venue at Fairmont St. Andrews.

The Torrance Course at Fairmont St. Andrews is named after former European Tour player and course designer Sam Torrence. Torryr's 21-time European tour wins list and he was an eight-times Ryder Cup member. The Torrierens course is a Par 72 of 7,230 yards and was redesigned by Gary Stephenson in 2009.

Fairmont St. Andrews hosted the 2020 Scottish Championship won by Adrian Otaegui with a score of 265 (-23) at a price of 50-1.

Hurry Long is 31-1 Boyd Sports' best bet for Rocket Mortgage Classic. Long has had good results at Barbasol and Barracuda.

Callum Shinkwin is a proven player on links-style setups. He was runner-up at the 2017 Scottish Open and a top-10 at 2020 Dunhill Links.

Espen Kofstad finished 13th and 16th at the Barbasol and Barracuda.

Marcus Helligkilde is a 40-1 Westgate SuperBook bet on Rocket Mortgage Classic. Hellikild finished eighth and 13th at the Barbasol and Barracuda.

Andy Sullivan has missed 10 of 16 cuts but showed signs of life last week with an eighth at Hillside. His 134 on the weekend was the best of any player in the field.

Eddie Pepperell finished 11th last week at Hillside. He ranked third in the field for Strokes Gained: Approach and eighth for Tee-to-Green.

This weekend marks the third of eight LIV Golf events in 2022. It will be held in Bedminster, New Jersey, at Trump National Golf Club. There is a planned protest from 9/11 families. 48 players will play individually and in groups of four for the team competition. Four new faces for this event include Henrik Stenson, Jason Kokrak, Paul Casey and Charles Howell III. Dustin Johnson is coming off a sixth-place finish at the British Open. Bryson DeChambeau finished eighth two weeks ago at St. Andrews. Abraham Ancer finished 11th at that event.

Bryson DeChambeau is 10-1 at Westgate SuperBook. Decham beau finished 10th at LIV Portland and 8th in the British Open. Trump National is long and a perfect setup for De chambeyau.

Matthew Wolff is a 30-1 Westgate SuperBook bet for Rocket Mortgage Classic. Wolf finished second to DeChambeau in the U.S. Open at nearby Winged Foot in 2020.

Justin Harding is the only player to finish in the top-10 for both LIV Golf events so far.
