Alsco Uniforms 302 Predictions, Odds & Picks

After an exciting end to the Round of 12, eight drivers now remain in the hunt for the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship. Tomorrow, that octet will try to lock down a spot in next month’s championship race by winning the Alsco Uniforms 302 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (3:30 pm ET, USA).

At last week’s Drive for the Cure 250 at the Charlotte roval, Sam Mayer emerged victorious in a must-win situation to book a spot in the Round of 8. Mayer’s victory knocked Daniel Hemric out of the running, and there was also heartbreak for Parker Kligerman, Jeb Burton, and Josh Berry, who were also eliminated from the playoffs.

This week, we’re back to oval action for the second Las Vegas race of the season. In March, Austin Hill took the checkered flag at the Alsco Uniforms 300, one of his four victories this season.

Hill will start the Round of 8 in second, 16 points behind John Hunter Nemechek and 21 points ahead of Cole Custer, who sits in fifth place.

NASCAR Xfinity Series Points Standings (Entering the Round of 8)

  1. John Hunter Nemechek – 3055
  2. Austin Hill – 3039
  3. Justin Allgaier – 3035
  4. Sam Mayer – 3020
  5. Cole Custer – 3018
  6. Chandler Smith – 3009
  7. Sheldon Creed – 3008
  8. Sammy Smith – 3006

Will Hill pick up his first win since July and secure his spot in the Championship 4? Ahead of Alsco Uniforms 302 qualifying, which will take place later today (7:35 pm ET, USA), Nemechek and Allgaier are the top two favorites, with Hill and two-time defending race winner Josh Berry having the third-best race winner odds.

2023 Alsco Uniforms 302 Predictions and Picks

Out of the four drivers who were eliminated last week, the one who might still be kicking himself the most is Berry. After finishing 36th in the Food City 300 and 27th in the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, placing third behind Mayer and Cole Custer in Charlotte was not enough.

That is an unfortunate outcome for Berry, who would have fancied his chances to reach the Championship 4 by winning this race for the third straight year.

  • 2019 (#1): Kyle Busch
  • 2018 (#2): Ross Chastain
  • 2018 (#1): Kyle Larson

In five Xfinity Series appearances at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Berry has finished seventh, first, fourth, first, and fifth.

He may no longer be in the title tussle, but his Sin City success means he is a driver to back this week. At both BetUS and Bovada, Berry is +120 to finish in the top five.

My other finishing pick for the Alsco Uniforms 302 is this year’s regular season champion.

After finishing sixth in this race last year, Austin Hill took the win at this year’s March race, beating out Justin Allgaier and Chandler Smith.

Given his lofty position in the standings, Hill might just need to finish well at Vegas, Homestead, and Martinsville to reach the Championship 4, provided chaos doesn’t reign around him. At both BetUS and Bovada, he is -110 to finish in the top five.

This season, Hill hasn’t gone more than four races without recording a top-four finish. So, after finishing fifth, 33rd, seventh, and ninth in his last four races, Hill is due and in a favorable spot.

That leaves our Alsco Uniforms 302 race winner pick, and while Berry and Hill are both great options, I’m rolling with Justin Allgaier.

None of his 22 previous Xfinity Series wins have come at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but he has about as good of a record there as you could hope for otherwise.

In 18 career Xfinity Series races at the track, he has ten top-five finishes and 15 top-ten finishes, and he has finished second four times.

  • 2012: 8th
  • 2011: 2nd
  • 2010: 7th
  • 2009: 8th

He finished 37th last week at Charlotte due to a late accident, but he was one of the best drivers in the field in the Round of 12, claiming at least one stage win in each race and winning at Bristol.

After years of coming up short of a title, this could very well be Allgaier’s year, and an Alsco Uniforms 302 win will put him on the cusp of finally reaching the summit.
