Ambetter Health 400 Predictions & Race Picks

After a 1-2 finish for Hendrick Motorsports at the season-opening Daytona 500, the NASCAR Cup Series is in the ATL this weekend for today’s Ambetter Health 400 (3:00 pm ET, FOX).

Last week, the 2024 Cup Series campaign began with William Byron edging teammate Alex Bowman to take his first Daytona 500 win. Byron, who led the series in wins last season, picked up his 11 career Cup Series win and became the first HMS driver to win the race since Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2014.

Joey Logano and Michael McDowell started in the front row at Daytona, and they will occupy the first two spots in the Ambetter Health 400 starting lineup. Last week, it was Logano on pole with McDowell second, but the order is reversed this week, as McDowell claimed his first pole in 467 career Cup Series starts.

Ambetter Health 400 Betting Analysis and Predictions

After being held in March in each of the previous three seasons, the race is back in February, which was when it was held in 2016, 2018, and 2019.

Each of the last nine editions of the race has been won by a driver whose car number included either a 2 or a 4.

If you followed my NASCAR Cup Series betting picks last season, you will know that race winner picks didn’t pan out very often at all. That should come as no real surprise. After all, with 35+ drivers in the field each week, and a dozen or more drivers likely to win a race each season, hitting on the one or two race winner picks each week is no easy feat.

But it’s a new year, and I choose to be optimistic about hitting on at least a few more than I did last year.

So, you’re up, Ryan Blaney. After having to use a backup car due to a wreck in one of the two Duel races at Daytona, the defending Cup Series champion finished 30 and eight laps down in the Daytona 500. But I’m backing a much better finishing today for Blaney, who will start sixth and has a win, four top fives, and six top tens in his last seven starts at Atlanta.

• Ryan Blaney to win Group 1 (+265 at BetOnline): I’m backing Blaney to win the race, so this is a great value pick to add on top of that one.
• Erik Jones to finish in the top 10 (150 at BetOnline): Jones has finished 14, 4, 8, and 11 in his last four Atlanta appearances. He will be starting at the very back of the field, but he will have plenty of opportunity to move through the field and score another solid finishing after coming in eighth at Daytona.
