Arieta Adi defies all odds for football dream

Hailing from Naitasiri where Rugby is considered the main sport, 16-year-old Arieta Adi defied all odds when she developed an interest in Football.

Drawing inspiration from her older sister who plays district football for Rewa, the Fiji Women’s under 16 football rep says her journey has not been easy.

She says football was not an option, but destiny had plans of its own for her when she was approached by her sister to play for the Nasinu team.

Adi says she was caught off-guard when her sister approached her to play football.

Her only goal, for now, is to ensure she makes it the final 20-member-squad which will be announced later.

For her team-mate, Wilma Baleirara, being inspired by her father to pursue a career in football is an honor.

“He always pushes me to become a better soccer player and sometimes he tells me to always have faith in myself.”

The Fiji Women’s under 16 squad have been in camp for the past three weeks and will depart for in two weeks’ time to take part in the 2019 OFC under 16 Women’s Championship.
