New Zealand's first goalkeeper Carol Waller turns football crusader

Carol Waller was New Zealand's first female football player. She played in the first ever women's international football match in 1975 against Hong Kong. New Zealander won the match 2-0. In 1973, the Auckland Women Football Association was founded. It was played on Sunday mornings. The team that Carol Wallers played with was one of the early Auckland United. The players were mostly men. There was no specialised goalkeeper training for Carol. Today, goalkeepers are getting better coaching. They are better because they are receiving top-quality coaching today. Women's football is played at the fields on a Saturday.
