Arizona State football: Kenny Dillingham a gamble for Sun Devils

Kenny Dillingham was hired as the new head football coach at Arizona State. Dillham has been an offensive coordinator at four schools: Memphis, Auburn, Florida State and Oregon. Arizona's hiring of Jedd Fisch two years ago was panned by critics. Herm Edwards was a surprise hire at ASU in 2017. He had a chance of working, but the program fell apart after cheating. It was the craziest hire since Notre Dame picked a high school coach Gerry Faust in 1981. Kansas hired Charlie Weis in 2012. He was successful. The team was caught cheating and hosted recruits during the pandemic.

Arizona's football program is behind most power five schools in terms of compensation for athletes.
