The Hogs served notice in ’21, going 9-4 despite a brutal schedule. The ’22 schedule was no easier, but injuries at QB contributed to just a 6-6 finish, plus a 55-53 win in their bowl game. What are realistic expectations now?

Arkansas Football Predictions: AREAS TO WATCH
I’m a big fan of QB Jefferson and think he can become an NFL talent. Can the OL protect him? They allowed 31 sacks in ’22 and seem a bit down now. I show RB Sanders as #1 or #1A in all of the NCAA.
I like Dan Enos as the (new) coordinator and think this works. There could be issues at WR/TE, with the top four gone.
This is a very young unit, so expect some mistakes/drops. Two highly productive LB’s are gone. This is by far my biggest defensive concern.
There’s also a new defensive coordinator, and he’ll be charged with fixing a well below par Pass D. I’ll chart progress early and often.
Arkansas Football2023 Predictions, Arkansas Schedule:
Arkansas should begin SEC play with a 3-0 record as long as they beat BYU in a home game. The last three games vs. LSU have all been decided by three points (1-2). I lean another loss here.
The Hogs missed a kick and lost by two vs. A&M a year ago. I’ll pre-check A&M’s progress off it’s disappointing ’22 season. Amazingly, Arkansas allowed 703 yards to OL Miss and still won 42-27.
This is another dangerous game. Arkansas is 10-18 vs. the spread after playing Alabama, but needs to find a way to at least win holding serve hosting Miss St and their (slightly) new staff.
How’s Florida doing this year. Like with OL Miss, the wise thing to do is figure out which defense is playing better this season.
The record hosting Auburn has been porous. Auburn has a new coach (Hugh Freeze). The Hogs close hosting Missouri. That game could be tricky.
Arkansas Football Bottom Line:
7-5 or 6-6. I lean 7-5 as I like the offense, but certainly the defensive #’s have to be continuously checked for unusual plusses or minuses.
Arkansas Football HANDICAPPING TIP:
I love watching SEC football, especially SEC defenses. Unfortunately, despite usually ending at 57.5% or so in ATS NCAA action, the SEC has been forever my worst wagering conference, coming in at 49% over the past six years (not counting 65% in bowl games), and 50% over the past twelve seasons.
Here in this spot I vowed to correct that, and finally I did, hitting over 60%. I have no concrete opinions here thus far, and I’ll likely be looking at a balanced game plan.
