Ashley Young aims Liverpool dig at Gary Neville after Champions League prediction goes wrong

Aston Villa defender Ashley Young has poked fun at Gary Neville's prediction that Liverpool will win their remaining two Premier League games in the battle for top four.

The Reds had slim hopes of breaking into the Champions League places in their remaining matches but Jurgen Klopp's side would need a monumental collapse from Newcastle United and Manchester United in their run-in to have the opportunity to scrape through.

Their hopes received further damage as they slumped to a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday. Jacob Ramsey fired Unai Emery's side into a first-half lead.

Cody Gakpo saw his effort early in the second-half controversially chalked off before Roberto Firmino scored a late equaliser in his final match at Anfield as a Liverpool player.

"Nothing like a plan coming together, OOPS," Young wrote, with a pair of eyes emoji and a laughing one, before tagging his former Manchester United teammate.

His quip comes after the retired full-back claimed that the Reds would take maximum points from their remaining games against Villa and Southampton. Speaking on Monday night football after Jurgen Klopp's side brushed past Leicester City, he said: "Liverpool will get 71 points [two wins from two], I don't think there's any point in Manchester United or Newcastle thinking they don't have to win two matches each out of their last three.

"They have to win two matches or else they'll be in big trouble."

The point for Liverpool and a win at Bournemouth for the Red Devils meant the gap is three points going into the final day for the Reds. But it could change should Erik ten Hag's side beat Chelsea in midweek.
