Villa can get off the mark

Both sides began their seasons with defeats on the opening weekend and while Everton worked hard in their 1-0 loss to Fulham, Aston Villa’s 5-1 thrashing away at Newcastle United was a shock.

The visit of the Toffees is the perfect opportunity for Unai Emery’s side to get some points on the board against a side they have had success against in recent seasons. Everton have scored just once in their previous five meetings with Villa, who have won three of those to nil.

It is no secret Sean Dyche’s side are in desperate need of goals and both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and new signing Youssef Chermiti are short of match sharpness so are likely not to start on Sunday.

Villa have injury problems of their own, with Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Buendia and Jacob Ramsey all unavailable, but they should have enough to beat Everton to nil.

The Midlands outfit won their last seven Premier League home games last season, five of them to nil. With Everton far from their sharpest in front of goal, there is no reason why that run can’t continue.

Aston Villa vs Everton tip 1: Aston Villa to win to nil @ 15/8 with Sky Bet

Watkins will be involved

Ollie Watkins is one player who benefited massively from Emery’s appointment last season and he ended the season with 15 top-flight goals.

That tally included one in the 2-0 win over Villa at Goodison Park in February, the last time these two sides met, and he assisted both goals in the 2-1 win at Villa Park last August.

The England striker’s link-up and creative work could be boosted by the arrival of Moussa Diaby. The club-record summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen scored on his debut at St James’ Park last week when the assist was provided by Watkins.

If Villa are to be successful against Everton, as we expect them to be, Watkins will play a big part so a price just shy of evens for a goal or assist for the 27-year-old seems worthwhile.

Luiz worth a shot to test Everton

Douglas Luiz looks great value in the shots on target market and is the first selection for our bet builder. The midfielder averaged one shot per game last term with a third of those on target.

He managed to register a shot on target in his side’s drubbing at Newcastle and is also on set-piece duty, boosting his chances.

For Everton, Abdoulaye Doucoure seems the smart selection. The Toffees dominated Fulham last week, managing nine shots on target with the Mali midfielder providing two.

Doucoure got the goal that kept Everton up last season and ended the campaign with six goals in his final 10 matches, so he seems a smart addition to this bet builder.

The final leg is more than nine corners. In Everton’s opener, they managed 10 with Fulham adding four to the total count, while there were 11 in Aston Villa’s loss to Newcastle.

If that plays out again at Villa Park, then this leg should come in comfortably and add some handy value to our bet builder.

Aston Villa vs Everton tip 3: Douglas Luiz 1+ shots on target, Abdoulaye Doucoure 1+ shots on target, 9+ corners @ 5/1 with Sky Bet
