Promise of a thriller at City Ground

Aston Villa have not looked back since losing 5-1 at Newcastle on the opening weekend of the Premier League season and they are up to fifth in the table, having amassed 22 points from their subsequent nine matches.

However, their lofty league position is largely down to their dominance at Villa Park, where they have won all five games and racked up 20 goals along the way.

On the road, though, Unai Emery’s side have lost against Newcastle, been beaten 3-0 by Liverpool and suffered a frustrating 1-1 draw at Wolves.

So with Forest unbeaten in seven league games at home, and in need of a lift after a rotten run of form, goals may be the route for punters to take.

Villa’s 10 league games this term have featured 40, with seven of those fixtures rewarding backers of over 3.5 goals.

Emery’s men are netting freely but they have also managed only two clean sheets in the league this season, suggesting the goalscoring chances could also come for Forest on their own patch.

Steve Cooper’s side are without a win in six after last Sunday’s 3-0 loss at Liverpool, although they have shared the spoils in four of those games.

Both teams have netted in all four of their home league fixtures this campaign and, with the trend expected to continue, banking on a high-scoring clash may be the way to go.

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa tip 1: Over 3.5 goals @ 15/8 with Paddy Power

Watkins can again showcase his scoring talents

Ollie Watkins is doing all he can to show his worth to England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of next summer’s European Championships, and the Villa hotshot can make his mark at Forest.

Watkins already has nine goals in 16 appearances in all competitions this season, averaging a strike every 124 minutes, and he was on target in a 2-0 win at home to Forest last term.

The 27-year-old has five goals from 26 shots in the Premier League this season – and at 13/10, he looks a fair price to bolster his tally in the East Midlands.

Villa likely to dominate proceedings

It is likely that a confident Villa are going to dictate the tempo of this game and that could lead to a few cards for the hosts as they attempt to soak up the pressure and win back the ball.

Only Wolves, Chelsea and Tottenham have picked up more bookings than Forest (29) this season and they have collected at least three cards in four of their past five league games.

That appeals in our bet builder, along with over 5.5 Aston Villa corners. The visitors have racked up 61 corners in 10 top-flight games, with only four teams having managed more in the Premier League this season.

Our final bet builder selection is both teams to score, a bet that landed in all four of Forest’s home league games this term. The net has also bulged at both ends in five of Villa’s past six top-flight contests.

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa tip 3: Bet builder: both teams to score, over 2.5 Nottingham Forest cards and over over 5.5 Aston Villa corners @ 7/2 with Paddy Power
